A teardrop

Származási hely: Főalbum
I found this little stone in the Cathedral. It's not particulary old but I have never seen anything like this before. It wasn't a part of the ruins. Someone just took it there. But I think this is an important memento for me and for all the visitors - not to forget, that this is a living and sacred place. For prayers, for mourning and for remembering. It is just so delicate and fragile - like love itself.

Ez a könnycsepp alakú követ a katedrális egyik hajójában találtam. Nem régi, nem is része romoknak. Csak úgy odatette valaki a párkányra. Szomorú a felirat is: "Egy könnycsepp drága lányomért. A fontos dolgokra.

My shining sun

Származási hely: My Coventry
There is a huge green cone in the middle of the city. People don't look at it, they just pass by. To be honest, it's a very unlucky spot for an artwork: in front of an indian restaurant, among cafes and shops. It's always crowded, everyone is in a hurry and has no time to wonder about this vivid colour statue, with its soapy surfaces and beautiful carvings. It's title is: The Thread Through Time. Beside the sun there is a castle, an elephant and a lot of happy people. My favourite is the sun, because it shines so radiant.

It roars the message

Származási hely: My Coventry
Isn't is funny that a big, blue hand shows the way to the intimate chapel where you can pray? This hand is exactly the same as the one the baseball fans use in the USA. I have never seen it before, exept for  in the series Friends on Joey's hand. However the contrast between this wild blue shaded glove and the old walls of St John' Baptist's Church is stunning.
---------------
Hiszen a felirat azt mondja: "Csöndes imádkozás erre..."

The old comrade

Származási hely: My Coventry
Every time when I see this statue in front of the Trasport Museum I just can't stop smiling. His pose is so familiar to me. It looks like one of the saluting socialist comrade statues, and I saw many of them in Hungary when I was a child. But this similarity is just accidental. This man is not tributing anyone, he's just shading his eyes, wathcing the airplanes. Because Frank Whittle was the inventor of a new type of jet engine that could fly higher and faster than anything ever seen before. And he was born in Coventry.

Ismerős a póz?

Lost lives and hopes

Származási hely: My Coventry
The old statues and carvings of the cathedral perished in the fire following the bombing of the Cathedral. But even in the second world war this huge attack and incredible loss shocked the world. Soon a lot of artists started to send gifts to the mourning city. Alain John was only 17 years old when he made this Christ figure of clay. He could never make his dream come true and became a real artist. He lost his life as a RAF pilot. After his death this statue was turned to stone and was given to the Cathedral as a memorial to those who lost their young lives in the war - before they had even be started.

A katedrális eredeti szobrai és faragványai mind elpusztultak a bombázást követő tűzvészben. Még a második világháború vérzivataros éveiben is, mikor minden nemzetnek megvolt a maga vesztesége, sokkolta egész Európát a Coventry elleni támadás erőszakos ereje. Műve annak a sok-sok fiatalnak állít emléket, akik életük vesztették a háborúban, mielőtt igazán elkezdhették volna.

The famous Cathedral

Származási hely: My Coventry
To be honest I had never heard about the Cathedral before we arrived to the UK, and when I first saw it I wasn't impressed. Quite common red stones, high walls without rooves, no nice carvings or luminescent glass windows. Pretty plain. It is sad to see something destroyed, and particulary when it survived centuries in mint condition. I was sure, the glory days of the cathedral had gone. However, I had to realise that the inhabitants of the city never forget their cathedral. For them it is not just a ruin - but a social place since the 12th century. There are still concerts, masses, prayings - and has more visitors than the modern cathedral next to it. So people just love these old ruins, and I can understand them. It has a very strong and nice aura; just so calming and relaxing to be in there. And if you are not in a hurry you can see lots of hidden details, as living mementos from the past.
