Black beauty

Származási hely: My Coventry

There are some quintessential symbols of England - the Double Deckers, Big Ben, the Union Jack - and the bug-shaped black cabs. Everyone in the world associates their image with the UK. The black cab was a great mystery for me. It looked like a very distinguished old gentleman with a bowler hat. But I couldn't imagine what it looked like when you were siting in one. As a tourist I was afraid to use them, because I thought it had to be horribly expensive. It seemed a luxury item to me that I can't afford. When I arrived in Coventry with 5 suitcases and three children it didn't make sense to use the public transport from the train station. We had to get not one but even two taxis to take us home. When I sat inside it was a real revelation. In Hungary the taxis look like any other ordinary cars. But the black cabs are totally different. It has more space and seems humongous when you sit down. First of all, there is no boot, so we had to put each suitcase in front of our legs. And there are five seats in the car - three facing forwards and two backwards, and you can't sit next to the driver - there is a glass between him and the passengers. I hadn't seen a car designed to be a passenger carrier before. And the best part was - when I realised, that it's not more expensive than any other taxi in the world. Not a cheap one, but sometimes it's affordable. And what is the connection between Coventry and the cab? Not just the fact that the city is full of them, but I read all the black cabs in the UK were made in Coventry. So it's not just the symbol of the UK - but the City itself. And what I like most it's that, there are not just black ones, but a whole range of colors, from purple to green or red. They're as colorful as the city itself.

British colours

Származási hely: My Coventry
I love the colours of the Union Jack and I find the traditional English houses made of red bricks charming. So when I saw some flying baloons in front of a pub, and in the background the spires of the Cathedral, I couldn't resist taking a photo.
