Every time when I see this statue in front of the Trasport Museum I just can't stop smiling. His pose is so familiar to me. It looks like one of the saluting socialist comrade statues, and I saw many of them in Hungary when I was a child. But this similarity is just accidental. This man is not tributing anyone, he's just shading his eyes, wathcing the airplanes. Because Frank Whittle was the inventor of a new type of jet engine that could fly higher and faster than anything ever seen before. And he was born in Coventry.

Ismerős a póz? Nem tehetek róla, de minden alkalommal, amikor meglátom ezt a szobrot mosolyra húzódik a szám. Hát nem teljesen úgy néz ki, mint egy tisztelgő kommunista harcos? A póz azonban megtévesztő - ez a férfi nem tiszteleg senkinek, valójában csak a szemét próbálja leárnyékolni, hogy messzebbre láthasson az égen. Frank Whittle ugyanis feltaláló volt és egy olyan repülőgép motort fejlesztett ki, amelynek segítségével magasabbra és messzebbre repülhettek a pilóták, mint korábban. És ez a férfi itt, Coventryben született.
